This sculpture consists of a bronze ring, 330 cm in diameter (double the height of the artist), which can be moved by a
group of 10 people according to certain visual instructions or ‘scores’. Manipulating this sculpture produces a subtle sound. As in her other sculptures, sound is an essential element for the
artist to investigate the relationship of the object to her own body, and that of the viewer. Both the use of bronze and the collective activation of the artwork, for the first time separate from her own performative interventions, are a new step in Maika Garnica’s oeuvre. Her oeuvre explores the relationship between artist, spectator and space by playing or activating her sculptures herself. Variations in context and interaction constantly shift the
ature of her work, from sculpture to sound object or utensil. Her work often brings people together and the way she interacts with her creations and the audience results in a new form of
communication where language becomes of secondary importance.
