For many years, a several number of individuals and groups approached the City of Genk to request erecting memorials. In September 2015, Denicolai and Provoost asked the city for a list of ten requests that was not followed up. These concerned the Ford Genk factory closure or the Limburg mines one as much as the Resistance. They then contacted these groups and individuals and met them for an interview's series. Ivo and Simona explored their deep motivations, which pushed them to claim a place in the public space, they also approached the different ways of commemorating an event. How can we rethink the commemorating act? How can we ensure that each commemoration is recognized in the same way in the public space? Can history be infused into the daily life of our current cities? Their goal was also to understand as good as they could what was the driving force that fed each request, to be able to define all the fundamental elements that needed to be translated visually: names, dates, place names, shapes, tastes, colors, objects, phrases, symbols, etc. It was decided to create a series of cakes, in close collaboration with the associations and individuals who had applied for a memorial, and the bakeries of Genk. Anyone can order these cakes from the city's pastries since 2008. Therefore, the object itself is less important than its "liaison agent" role, for initiatives, commemorative ceremonies and gatherings both public and private. It is also a real work on the public pace of the city of Ghent, the ten frames acting as ambassadors for this in situ thought. The artwork consists of a protocol to perform 'Tien taarten - Ten cakes', 10 framed images of the cakes from Genk, 200 catalogs on A4-format and a PDF-document to reprint the catalog when needed.
